On Saturday, September 9, a propaganda action was launched in Ikebukuro,
Tokyo by Support Groups for TMPCWA in Japan and ZENZOSEN (All Japan
Shipbuilding & Engineering Workers Union ? Kanto Regional Conference) in
front of the “Toyota Amlux Tokyo”, Toyota’s largest showroom in
Tokyo. This activity was carried out as part of the global anti-Toyota
campaign by IMF (International Metalworkers’ Federation) appealing to
workers and citizens all over the world, calling for the reinstatement
of dismissed workers of Toyota Philippines.

A propaganda band consisting of some 20 persons, who gathered in front
of Amlux Tokyo at half past 1 o’clock in the afternoon, started
propaganda in an advertising style like Chindon-ya(*), holding up three
banners. They also made an appeal using a microphone and delivered a
bill. As many people who came out of the showroom interestedly received
the bill, this propaganda activity turned out very effective. While a
representative delegation of the propaganda band made a proposition to
the Amlux Tokyo calling on it to convey to Toyota a message to “Abide
by the decision of the Supreme Court of the Philippines!, Comply with
the recommendations of ILO (International Labor Organization)!, Conduct
CBA (collective bargaining agreement) negotiation with the union
TMPCWA!, and Withdraw the dismissal of 233 union member employees!,” an
Amlux Tokyo’s person in charge kept taking an unfaithful reaction as
saying, “We are a separate company, so we are not related.”

* Chindon-ya: loudly dressed street musicians temporarily employed for
advertising purpose
