Dear friends
As we have informed before, we are preparing for a Day of Action
against Trade Union Repression and Political Killings on November 16, 2006.
Under the presidency of Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, from January 20,
2001 until June 30, 2006, 64 leaders, members, organizers and
supporters of trade unions and informal workers organizations have
been killed. They are part of the more than 750 victims of political
killings under the Arroyo regime. More than 982 cases of trade union
and human rights violations victimizing 77,028 workers were recorded.
Aside from killings, other violations include assault in the
picketline, illegal arrest and detention, grave threat, intimidation,
abduction and harassment.
Very recently, we filed a complaint at the ILO against the Arroyo
government for violating conventions nr. 87 and 98.
The background document of the November 16 action and more relevant
information can be found at

United Kingdom and the USA (Seattle, Washington DC and Los Angeles).
Among the supporting organizations are the Australian Council of
Trade Unions and UNISON (UK). The Philippines will organize a big
rally in Manila this day, as well as several regional mobilizations.
Annexed here with, please find the sing-on letter to President Gloria
Macapagal-Arroyo with the first signatories.
May we request that your organization consider organizing a protest
at the Philippine embassy or consulate in your country and / or sign
the letter to President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo?
Please inform us if you have any plans regarding the November 16 Day
of Action. Feel free to contact us with all your questions about this action.
Thank you for defending unions and workers' rights in the Philippines!
