Palparan's party list ANAD involved in 2004 election cheating; 
mentioned in Garci tapes – Anakpawis Nominee Joel Maglunsod

Labor leader and Anakpawis Party List third nominee Joel Maglunsod 
said that Ret. Maj. Gen. Jovito Palparan's likely choice of party list 
affiliation will ensure his loss of credibility to the voting population. "We 
are not surprised with Palparan's choice of party list. After all, the 
Alliance for Nationalism and Democracy or ANAD is notorious for its 
activities against progressive organizations and critics of the 
administration. It is likely that Arroyo's Team Unity is also funding 
ANAD."

The party list nominee said that ANAD was cited in the Garci recordings 
as among the groups ensuring the Arroyo camp's lead against the 
opposition headlined by the late actor Fernando Poe Jr. ANAD 
benefited in the massive cheating in Mindanao orchestrated by the 
Arroyo administration through former Comelec Commissioner Virgilio 
Garcillano.

"We reviewed the Garci recordings and transcripts again and ANAD 
was mentioned in one of the conversations between a certain Ruben 
and Garcillano. Other party lists TUCP and SMILE, was also referred to 
in the recorded conversations. Pinag-usapan nila kung dadagdagan pa 
ang boto ng ANAD at TUCP. Dito pa lang, malinaw na walang 
kredibilidad ang party list ni Palparan at lalo na siya mismo na sangkot 
sa mga krimen at pagpatay sa mga sibilyan at aktibista," Maglunsod 
said. 

"Like Palparan, ANAD leader Jun Alcover is a known asset of the 
military and is notorious for his malicious comments against KMU and 
other progressive organizations. ANAD used to have a radio program 
at a.m. radio station DZRJ, owned by another Arroyo affiliate Ramon 
Jacinto."

"No one will believe Palparan's shameless claim that he did not commit 
human rights violations. All evidences and testimonies point to him as 
the mastermind behind the series of political killings of leaders and 
members of progressive organizations and civilians in Mindoro, Eastern 
Visayas, Southern Tagalog and Central Luzon. Blood spills wherever he 
goes. A murderer like Palparan must be punished. But instead of 
arresting him, the Arroyo government is condoning his criminal acts and 
now supporting his candidacy. We will make sure that Palparan will not 
gain immunity from prosecution with his responsibility in more than 800 
cases of extra judicial killings," Maglunsod concluded. ###
