LFS leader slain in Legazpi

LEGAZPI CITY- A leftist youth leader has been shot dead in the latest 
of a series of suspected political killings in the Philippines, 
police and activist groups said Monday.
Cris Hugo, 20, of the League of Filipino Students (LFS) was gunned 
down by two unknown assailants late Sunday as he walked home with a 
teacher in Legazpi City, said local police Senior Inspector Rico Nocillado.

The assailants fled.

LFS described the killing as politically motivated and said they held 
President Arroyo's administration accountable.

Authorities suspect the student group is a front for communist guerrillas.
Leftists say more than 30 of its activists have been killed in the 
Philippines since last year. The government has consistently denied 
an y involvement in the crimes. AFP
