Dear Mr. Tabata,
Thank you for responding as per the agreement made at the meeting of the
16 March,2006.
I must admit though of being very disappointed at your response. I was
of the opinion that you and other representatives of the TMP had
understood the points that we made at the meeting. We were at pains to
explain that the issue of reinstatement was of paramount importance and
if the company could not take this seriously we would have no option but
to take much stronger action to expose Toyota internationally. Once
again however, your reply simply repeats what your representatives at
the meeting said.
It is therefore not my intention here to repeat what the TMPCWA and IMF
said at the meeting. The fact is we are now deadlocked and we see no
need far any further meetings unless you are prepared to discuss
reinstatement. The TMPCWA has already indicated to the company some
possible points that could be negotiated.
Finally, let me reiterate what the IMF has said before. We will now
embark on an international campaign to expose the anti-union actions of
Toyota. We do this after much deliberation but can assure you that we
just cannot accept that Toyota behaves with such disdain for it's
workers and the organisation they have chosen to support. We also place
on record that we have done our utmost to avoid taking such action but
you leave us with no alternative.
The IMF remains willing at anytime to assist in resolving the TMPCWA and
TMP dispute to the satisfaction of the illegally dismissed members of
the union.
Yours sincerely,
Marcello Malentacchi
General Secretary
