Dear Sirs
I am writing to express concern for the detention of 14 peaceful demonstrators at the World Trade Organisation talks in Hong Kong on December 17th.
Unnecessary force in the form of tear gas and high pressure water were used against demonstrators who were drawing attention to the injustice of the WTO.
These demonstrations are carried out by people defending their right to a livelihood free of exploitation and to draw attention to the injustices brought about by the WTO policies.
As it is within your powers to release those arrested and to drop charges I would implore you to do this in the interests of justice and humanity.
This would go a long way towards restoring Hong Kong's ability to maintain a fair and just society in the eyes of the world.
Yours sincerely
Carol Bridgens (APWSL NZ)
